Pitch Update

Bear with me people…. A new idea. For my project, I want to the image of women I country music. This music is relatable to so many people I he United States. Yet still we hear of stereotypes of women. Women in country songs are wearing daisy dukes, making love in the back of a truck, and doing it all for the men in blue. This is not to deny that women do this, want to do this or enjoy it, but it should be balanced with intellect and more then imagery. We need more of the Shania Twain “Man I Feel Like a Woman” vibe. There are artists like Maddie and Tae with songs like “Girl in a Country Song” that re-defy this “all we’re good for is looking good for you and your friends on the weekend nothing more… now we’re lucky if we even get to climb up in your truck, keep our mouth shut and ride along and be the girl in a country song” yet this is still the mindset. The fact that there are songs like this is the first place prove this. For example, Dierks Bentley’s song “Different For Girls” which has lyrics like,

“it’s different for girls when their hearts get broke they can’t tape it back together with a whiskey and coke,
They don’t take someone home and act like its nothin’,
They can’t just switch it off everytime they feel somethin’,
A guy gets drunk with his friends and he might hook up,
Fast-forward threw the pain pushing em back when the tears come up”

Come on… it’s time we moved passed this. My project is in hopes to shed light to these kinds of music. I love country music and am a hopeless romantic, which has its place. But it is time to move past this and give women, especially those in the country world the respect they deserve. Maranda Lambert, is truly at the forefront of this and I am ready to follow suit.

For my live element, I want to go to the Grizzly Rose, a country bar, and show what the reality of the situation is. In addition, think Instagram and Snapchat can be vital in showing this. I want to talk to men and women alike to see how this fits but also how this idea doesn’t. Fuch’s is all about the commodity of media and country music feeds off men and women searching for the special someone and feeding into a preconceived notion. This is what I am trying to change.

I hope to:

  1. Show country musics history: the American dream
  2. Reverse these notions
  3. Show country music for what it could be
  4. Combine music, country, and the future to prove that women don’t just have to be “girls in a country song”

Music is a great communicator amongst generations, genders, sexualities, and hoestly the world. Being able to show women in a better light is a part of moving passed old stereotypes and preconceived notions. I am hoping social media is able to do this. Through live elements, the reality, the history, and the ability to break through to the future, I hope to show this. This is not to discredit the history and love (that I share) with country music but only progress it’s potential and show women in a different, more respectful light. With a little more Yehaw and a little less “Country Girl Shake it for Me” I think it can be done.
