Story Update #1
Last weekend I took my story to the Grizzly Rose. I was hoping to go live at the Joe Nichols concert (you may know him from hit songs “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” and “Gimmie that Girl”) and interview audience members at the intermission between the opening and main act. Unfortunately for my story, they continued to play music that was too loud for me to video over. I am accepting it only because I captured this total Johnny Cash moment.
So while I got to enjoy watching people get dumped off of the mechanical bulls, I was unable to go live. Back to square one….
My new thought is to ask people on campus my questions. I’m thinking things like, “who are a couple of your favorite artists?, do you see a difference in songs from women and men in country?, and what draws you to one or the other?” If anyone has suggestions for live I am open!
I have updated my experimental platform to Pintrest. I think this will reach the audience I am writing for. I plan to make “Bad Ass Country Ladies” type board that supports women in country music and sheds a little more positive light.
I saw this picture of Shania Twain and I about lost it. I want this exact outfit and a excuse to wear it. I think highlighting female songs, artists, writers, even fashion icons is a good way to push women in the country music world to the front without having to take something away from the men that dominate the industry. I plan to use some hashtag manipulation to see who what draws more people in and get a sense of demographics.
While I am mostly “pinning” to the board I will also make some of my own content. I also am throwing in a few male faces, like this meme, to hopefully appeal to a bigger audience.
After my meet up with Professor Ryan we came up with the idea to take over a hashtag. Right now I’m thinking #countrywide which is a riff off of the song “Country Must be Country Wide” by Brantley Gilbert. I like that it can be transformed to this meaning of inclusion and diversity. I will couple this with more popular hashtags like #countrygirl (hate it or love it, there are over 4 million tags on Instagram).
Advice is always welcome and I’ll see you all Wednesday!
