Debunking the myth about debunking myths
- Correcting Misconceptions
One of the rationales behind myth debunking is the desire to correct what the debunker views as ‘misconceptions’. It is fuelled by the Debunker’s desire to be a buzz kill.
-Facts and Figures
As the myth debunking trade is a highly scrutinized field, debunkers often times buttress their research with facts and figures. This is fuelled by the Debunker’s excess resources and having nothing better to do with his/her time.
-Debunking the trade
The word ‘Myth’ means ‘a widely held but false belief’, the meaning of the word defeats the existence of the debunking trade. People are aware that myths are wrong, false and highly improbable (allegedly). Regardless, people will still like to believe that a penny dropped from the top of the Empire State building would kill someone because- random fun. So what the hell is being debunked? What we already know to be false? Or is a myth simply a myth because people are not aware that their beliefs are false? Or is believing that people do not know that their beliefs are myths a myth in itself? Am I full of shit? Will the Captain Marvel movie exceed expectations?
-Theory
Myths are false. Debunkers merely restate what many already regard as myths. Like democracy in Nigeria they serve no purpose.
