Elections are a real life game of Tetris

The beautiful game of Tetris is entirely about making the best of an unwanted situation. The Tetris gods keep feeding you blocks of all shapes and colours, expecting you to manipulate, bend, move and place them wherever you desire on a playing field designed by them. Whatever you decide to do with these blocks determines the progress or lack thereof of your entire game, but one thing is constant- you do not get to choose what block joins the party next, all you get is a hint from that cute looking tab at the right of your screen that shows you the next necessary evil.

That cute little tab is designed by the same wrinkly persons that have been playing tag with the flawed concept of democracy since the highlight of your day was biting on a rubber nipple. If your highlight was biting on an actual nipple; congratulations you well-nourished bastard.

These wrinkly, somewhat good looking prunes keep flooding the playing field with versions of themselves and the only role the gamers play is to make it work or else! A silver lining though; these other versions come in shiny new colours that make for beautiful viewing.

Elections are a real life game of Tetris:

Election god (EG) 1: hey wrinkly ol’ prune

EG2: hello you beautiful specimen

(no one says anything for a while)

EG3: good day to you both too! I am sitting right here you know

EG2: pfft…

EG1: I know right, everyone knows anything more than two prominent parties is just unnecessary

Election gods’ god (BRAINS): settle down now fellas! Let’s get started on the order of the day….elections are around the corner again, we need a gameplan”

EG3: agreed

EG2, EG1: agreed!

EG2: then why is he here? (points at EG3)

BRAINS: well you two made a mess of the last term; he’s here to for push political stability (using air quotes)

EG1: what’s that?

EG2: I haven’t the slightest of clues

EG1: must be gibberish

EG3: sounds like Latin

EG2: yeah….. I’m pretty sure it’s Latin

BRAINS: Order! According to my calculations the easiest way to play out this round of elections is for the both of you (pointing at EG1 and EG2) to be at each other’s throats whilst EG3 swoops in and offers a refreshing perspective…. a new perspective!

EG3: new is always better!

BRAINS: well said

EG1: very profound

EG2: sounds very philosophical too

BRAINS: indeed, who said that?

EG3: Barney Stinson

EG1: Ahh wise man

BRAINS: yeah… I’ve heard of him

EG2: hmmm… I don’t think I can trust a philosopher whose initials are B.S.

Much like the beautiful game of Tetris, Elections provide the illusion of control, feeding our innate desire to make the best out of the chaos and just like Tetris the gods always win.
