What are Nudges?

Cuddle helps business users stay on top of their priority business areas by nudging them whenever something eventful happens in their business that may require attention.

Users simply tell Cuddle to follow business areas that are important to them by clicking a button on the app, and Cuddle nudges users in case of any changes in trends, anomalous events and much more.

Nudges are personalized to each user. Within Cuddle, users have complete control over the business areas they want to follow. Say I’m a sales manager, selling to customers in New York. With Cuddle, I can follow business areas that I care about — the overall sales achievement in New York, the performance of stores within my region and other metrics I’d want to monitor.
Similarly, if Jenny looks into sales in California, she can follow metrics for California. So now, if Sales in California is on a downward trend, Cuddle will nudge Jenny, because California’s sales is a priority for her.

A Nudge can signify a new trend pattern, a spike or drop, a missed target, a milestone achievement and much more.

Types of Nudges

Unexpected Event

This nudge runs a classic anomaly detection algorithm on top of time-series data. This type of nudge simply flags off outlier values to the users.
Click here for more information about our anomaly detection algorithms.

Say I am the Marketing Manager for Walmart. I will tell Cuddle to follow `Page Views` for Walmart’s website, and Cuddle will nudge me if there are any anomalies in `Page Views` for Walmart’s website.

Significant Change

This Nudge captures growth vs year ago for business areas followed by a user. A data point only qualifies as a Nudge when there is an anomaly in the growth rate vs year ago.

Say I am the Finance Director for Mars. I will tell Cuddle to follow Overall `Reimbursement Expenses`, and Cuddle will nudge me to inform if my `Reimbursement Expenses` for a month are significantly higher or lower than expected in comparison to the `Reimbursement Expenses` for that month in the previous year.

Performance Alert

This Nudge informs the users about target misses and milestone achievements w.r.t. the benchmarks defined by admin.

Say I am the Regional Sales Manager for the East Region. I will tell Cuddle to follow `Dollar Sales by Sales Representative`, and Cuddle will nudge me to inform which sales reps are exceeding expectations and which sales reps underperforming w.r.t targets & benchmarks like period ago values.

Prominent Trend

This Nudge informs the users about changing trends in the KPIs that are important to them and are followed by Cuddle for them.

Say I am the HR Manager for Reckitt Benckiser. I will tell Cuddle to follow `Overall Employee Churn Rate` for Reckitt Benckiser, and Cuddle will nudge me whenever it sees an upward trend on `Employee Churn Rate`.

Analysis

On top of these nudges, Cuddle also provides additional business insights for a particular event.
For example, if sales of Adidas shoes in the west region is down then is it because of the shelf share dropping a week ago? or is it the drop in overall shoe sales in California?

Where Analysis

When an anomaly is detected, the system tries to find hot-spots because of which the anomaly might have occurred.
For example, if there is an outlier on 30th May 2019 for Sales in U.S.A. then where analysis is going to look for anomalies within the States within U.S.A. for 30th May 2019 and present it to the user as shown in the screenshot on this slide.

Why Analysis

There are certain drivers for metrics in a lot of business cases. For example, Distribution is a driver of Sales.
In ‘Why Analysis’, Cuddle points out anomalies detected in driver measures on the relevant time period.
