Once a year most of the world organizes Children´s Oncology Day. The Czech Republic is not an exemption. On September 10th we attended this event in Prague, on the premises of Brevnov Monastery. A quite famous and ancient place located in the capital, being the first male monastery in historical Bohemia (nowadays the Czech Republic), was officially founded by Prince Boleslav on The 2nd, on 31st of May of 993, as Břevnov Abbey, with the approval of Pope John XV. This year´s event was dedicated to families which went through oncological treatment and also to the families which were founded by recovered patients. The whole place was arranged as a sort of exposition spot of various charities and non-profit organizations directly involved in cancer treatment and post-cancer recovery.
Pointing out the necessary
Situated on the green lawn next to the monastery, the event hosted a musical program and other cultural activities such as a magician show, etc. to entertain the young audience. Kids were visiting also exhibition stands, with each one organizing a skill game, allowing them to win small sweets, merchandise, etc. It was nice to see various organizations, of which many operate in the serious scope and size in the country for years, with lots of great work behind them. In general, the pharmaceutical progress in the treatment of children´s oncological diseases made huge leaps forward, significantly raising the survival percentage of the patients in the last 15 years, reaching the rate of 80%. Good news aside, the event also pointed out the global underfinancing in the area of research and development in children´s oncology, which is the cause of approximately 17% death rate by the selective oncological diseases diagnosed at an early age.
Our addition
This year Cuddle.Me charity, which humbly cooperates with the Pink Bubble Foundation´s joined its stand and presented its own activities a little. With merch on sale, as well as organizing one of two exhibition stand skill games, and assisting the magician which we have booked and paid as part of the program on the main podium we always had something to do. Joining the Pink Bubble´s stand we also decided that all the income from the merchandise sold, will go directly to the PB´s Foundation. Starting at 11 AM, we have been worried about the meteorological situation, with quite strong rain predicted, especially because this was an outdoor event, and we were not sure how much water the stand can take. Fortunately, we have been greeted just by an occasional two-minute splash, with the sun reappearing in the sky soon after. We took it as a good sign of course! It was one of those days when one knows for sure the good cause. We have been happily part of that, thanks to the Pink Bubble Foundation, one of the leading charities in the city.
