This year, London’s premier Summer sporting event, Chestertons Polo in the park returns, with its International Day to be co-sponsored by decentralised cloud network Cudos in partnership with Sportgate International. The sponsorship marks a significant first for the UK’s fast-growing Web3 industry. The event will feature competitive Polo action, the Fulham food festival, world-class hospitality and live music at the Hurlingham Park.

The England polo team will take on Argentina in an international match on Friday, June 10th, dubbed “Cudos International Day.” The game will set the tone for an action-packed afternoon of exciting activities, with spectators treated to delightful bars, food, music, and the opportunity to meet leaders and professionals from various industries, all while enjoying a pitch-side view of first-class Polo action in a relaxed London summer setting.

This year, Chestertons Polo in the park will be a net-zero Carbon event, mirroring Cudos’ core mission to promote environmental sustainability in the decentralised cloud computation arena.

“As a decentralised cloud ecosystem committed to expanding global access to alternative and innovative computing offerings, we’re proud to be supporting a globally-focused sporting event with equitable access for all. Partnering with SportGate International, our goal is to bring this fantastic event to a broader range of audiences alongside enterprise businesses, investors and Web3 companies. Their reputation for exceptional event management and collaboration makes for a truly rewarding partnership.” commented Pete Hill, VP of Sales at Cudos.

Details on the event?

Chestertons Polo in the Park is a must-attend social and sporting event in London during the summer. The three-day polo festival in Fulham’s Hurlingham Park has become one of the city’s most popular outdoor events. The tournament has historically brought together a healthy mix of brands. This year’s sponsors include finance, retail, legal, and tech companies. Characterised by a simplified set of rules for the tournament, games are typically fast-paced, dynamic, and entertaining, keeping thousands of spectators enthralled throughout a fun-filled event.

The event represents the largest three day festival of polo globally and welcomes teams from all over the world. It has the broadest range of countries attending an International Polo tournament on an annual basis. For one weekend a year, Central London plays host to the finest players whose teams represent global financial centres from cities such as New York, London, Dubai, Sydney and Buenos Aires. This attracts a global audience and also some of the world’s finest brands who support their ‘City’ teams, including EFG Private Bank (Switzerland), Ford Go Electric (the new sustainable electric arm of Ford Motor Company), Private Client by Bupa (the global private office arm of Bupa) and Fever-Tree (the world’s finest tonics!).

SportGate’s Initiatives

Sportgate International owns and manages some of the most notable sporting events around the world annually. The company’s range of services includes consultancy, logistics, and management.

Since the first event in 2010, Sportgate has invested over £1m in improving Hurlingham Park. From ensuring that all green space, flora, and fauna are constantly looked after to ensuring that the Park’s public offerings are first class. Sportgate has invested in improving the tennis courts, building two new children’s playgrounds, tree planting on the perimeter, revamping the Rose Garden that is a haven for the older residents, and providing all year round repairs to the sports fields that host both rugby and football clubs. The organisation dug a borehole in 2010 to ensure that it could sustainably irrigate the Park in the summer, and established a ‘Residents Fund’ so that the residents could fund particular projects. This year, Sportgate has put a significant investment into making the park’s Sports Pavilion a fully digital wifi hub, with the latest 5G WiFi installation. This will hopefully support all of the sporting clubs who use this facility.

Meanwhile, Chestertons Polo in the Park has focused on supporting one specific local charity. SEAPIA is an incredible local charity based in Sands End, Fulham. It really is the beating heart of the local community and is a safe place for the young of the borough to be fed, be given love and support, and feel protected. It is hard to explain the difference that this small, but inspirational charity makes to the local children in this surprisingly deprived area. The event has been the primary donor to the charity for the past six years, and without the event’s donations, the charity would be challenged to deliver many of the much-need community programs.

Underscoring the importance of the event and the Cudo partnership, SportGate Managing Director Rory Heron commented, “Chestertons Polo in the Park was created to innovate a traditional sport, redesigning the rules and event experience to attract a new generation of fans. We rapidly became the most-watched polo competition globally, with teams from around the globe seeking to play in our unique and exciting format. When we met Cudos, we realised our values aligned, and they would be a perfect fit for our opinion-forming young audience. We (and our event partners) are already experiencing the innovative benefits of Cudos”.

Chestertons Polo in the Park also gives 2000 tickets to the community via a local ballot. Organisers prioritise donating tickets to charity and people who would otherwise be unable to attend events.

In 2022, Chestertons Polo in the Park will be a Carbon Net-Zero event, in keeping with the aim to support a sustainable future for all.

The Cudos Network

Cudos is a decentralised cloud and computing project developing next-generation cloud infrastructure to meet global computing demands in an environmentally ethical and sustainable way. Founded by Matt Hawkins, a cloud industry veteran, the network has emerged as a leading project within the UK’s Web3 ecosystem, paving the way for deeper mainstream adoption and collaboration with traditional businesses.

While the network’s infrastructure will likely enable the creation and deployment of play-to-earn games and metaverse-themed sporting events, Chestertons Polo in the Park marks a unique development for the project and the broader Web3 sector. Cudos International Day realises both a symbolic and a tangible organisational goal — to parachute the blockchain and cloud tech industry into mainstream consciousness whilst simultaneously expanding access to a prestigious annual sporting events in the heart of London.

“We’re seeing an increasing number of tech-savvy sports fans get excited about the fascinating possibilities created by the collision of sports and blockchain. This collaboration enables us to satisfy these growing demands and boost not only blockchain technology but drive the awareness of underutilised idle computing power throughout the sporting world. By advocating and supporting innovative and environmentally sustainable sporting initiatives like this, we can highlight our very own carbon neutral initiatives.” says David Pugh-Jones, Chief Marketing Officer at Cudos.
