🌍 Cudos to Ben for riding high (mountains) — Part 2 🚵‍♂️ — CUDOS

Despite COVID, our friend Ben persists with his preparation for the monumental challenge. His training is on track, and the remaining time should be enough for him to prepare thoroughly.

From our previous post, you learnt about the charities that Ben and his friends are supporting. As you can see, these are related to a variety of causes. The unifying thread is that we believe that all of them make a difference and must be supported. That’s why we have promised to match the donations that Ben raises up to 5,000 US dollars.

Ben’s training begun in early June. The initial focus was on getting “some good miles in [his] legs” cruising along less challenging courses. Later in the month, he began increasing the daily distances to increase his endurance.

Just a day after the summer solstice, on 22nd June, Ben took on the monumental Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass. Supposedly these are the most brutal road climbs in the country.

“Nearly 6000ft of hills done over 53 miles. Training is on track, but I still have a long way to go!” Ben remarked at the time.

Later in the month, Ben was getting closer to reaching the daily distances he’ll need to cover during the actual challenge. Despite some heaviness in his legs, he continued working on his stamina, covering more miles and hills. Inspired by the views, Ben was getting close to his goal. Not everything was going to go according to plans, however…

The setback

Just as he was approaching the peak of his conditioning, Ben caught COVID. It was a real setback to his training and ruined his original plan to head to Scotland on August 31st (his 40th birthday). COVID and isolation set him back by about three weeks but didn’t compromise Ben’s resolve.

The recovery

As soon as his quarantine was over, Ben was back on two wheels with a CUDOS jersey on his back. Three days of continuous cycling and camping gave him some insights into his current form.

Ben admits that he is “still not quite ready for Scotland but getting there”. Yet, he’s confident that he’s on track for a September 10th start of the challenge.

What’s next

For us, next, we’ll be covering Ben’s experience of doing the bike run.

For you, we’d be grateful if you could donate now and support Ben!

Of course, if you prefer, you can also donate CUDOS tokens to this address, and we’ll split it evenly among the five charities.
