Our challenge

Within the course of Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship, in Panteion university , as a part of a project our team had the opportunity to work with Anemon productions and CineDoc. On our first meeting with Rea Apostolides , anemon productions producer, and Kyveli Short, anemon’s producer and out researcher, we had the opportunity to learn more about their company and discuss about our partnership.

Anemon is a non-profit dedicated to producing documentaries, educational programmes and cross-media projects as a catalyst for discussion, inspiration and impact. Special focus is given to projects promoting inter-cultural and historical understanding across the Balkans, human rights and sustainable living. The company was founded in 2003, in Athens, bringing together the expertise of Greek filmmakers, producers and media specialists. Moreover, ANEMON provides independent producers and news organizations worldwide with production services as well as documentary crews who can deliver strong vérité footage, well-lit interviews and stunning photography in locations all over Greece. Also can provide professional equipment for any kind of filming, including underwater filming. The company also offers specialized archive research services for documentaries and television programmes. Is a member company of the ‘Documentary Campus’, based in Munich and Berlin. Since 2009, Anemon also co-organizes CineDoc an innovative public media initiative, screening award winning documentaries, in collaboration with the Institut français de Grèce and the Thessaloniki Film Festival. Spanning nine months of the year, the screenings are accompanied by a wide range of complementary events designed to foster dialogue on current affairs and inspire community initiatives. CineDoc screens films relevant to our contemporary lives as a catalyst for discussion, inspiration and impact. In 2015, CineDoc became a founding member of Moving Docs, an innovative European network that offers audiences the opportunity to watch and engage with documentaries across Europe.

Our Challenge

Anemon productions is about to start their first kids movies festival, CineDoc Kids from January 2017 till April 2017. This festival is about ages 8–17 , and includes documentary and fiction films which reflect life through the eyes of children and adolescents in different parts of the world. The program Compose a mosaic of stories that can inspire and sensitize young people, helping them to feel part of a larger world. The festival takes place from the Documentary Festival CineDoc jointly organized by the Music Hall, cinema Danaos, the Anemon Productions, with the support of Swedish embassies of Norway and the Norwegian Institute at Athens. Our challenge is to identify which categories of audience the festival referred to , such as children, parents, teachers, and the best way to reach them. Still we need to decide what publications must include the festival in order that our target groups have the maximum possible information about CineDoc Kids. Also we have to find out other activities whorkshops or speeches to be made in parallel with the film screenings to reach more audience and what are the most appropriate media sponsors. Our team even have to intensify the presence of the company and the particular festival online selecting the most appropriate Social Media.

Taking all that under serious consideration our next weeks are focused on a serious research , in order to find out what kind of audience does the CineDoc festivals usually have, the age gap we have to fill and a brainstorming session with all our group members in order to come up with innovative ideas on how to make the CineDoc kids festival appealing to a younger audience and how are we go to overcome the given obstacles. We are excited about the collaboration with Anemon Productions and we look forward to our next meeting on 2 December!
