Diablogato from Boston have an interesting approach to rock & roll where it’s not completely rockabilly, it’s not totally punk, but it’s somewhere in between with hints of electric blues and an abundance of amplification. No matter how you classify it, the quartet of vocalist & guitarist Andrew Indingaro, guitarist Chuck MacSteven, bassist Johnny Custom and drummer Jesse Mayer possess a sound that’s as wide-ranging as it is cohesive. Their songs also bring forth a variety of narratives, with their latest single “Lost Highway”, which is officially out today (April 17), taking an introspective look at inner demons and personal temptations. The release is officially from the local label Rum Bar Records with the accompanying music video having a notable David Lynch influence. As the song goes along, visuals inspired by Lynch’s films Blue Velvet and Lost Highway as well as his television series Twin Peaks come into view.

The track is off of an upcoming EP that’s due to come out later in the year as a follow-up to Diablogato’s previous full-length release Old Scratch that was released back in 2019. For the making of both the single and the music video, the band collaborated with Shawn Reilly at The Doghouse based in Waltham.

“It’s about the blurred lines between reality and hallucinations, guilt, desire, and the nature of identity,” Indingaro says about “Lost Highway”. “We are inviting the listeners into our world, to enjoy the experience of traveling with us, to change perspective, and to welcome those who are on the same lost highway.”

If you’re looking to hear the song played live, there are numerous opportunities to do so with Diablogato playing a few shows over the next few days. These include April 20 at Barrel House Z in Weymouth for Blackbeard Endeavors’ Market of Curiosities, April 27 at the New World Tavern in Plymouth and April 28 at Askew in Providence. In the meantime, check out the video below and explore a totally different landscape.
