A lot can happen in 14 years. There are changes in trends, thoughts, movements and even issues, but with this being said, some things still say the same. One example is the Rhode Island School of Design born and New York City based indie rock act Les Savy Fav still being able to release kickass songs. This is evident in the single “Legendary Tippers”, which is out today (February 7) along with an accompanying music video. It’s the band’s first release since their last full-length album Root for Ruin that came out back in 2010, but it’s a welcomed re-arrival after such a long time away from the musical landscape. It’s also another track that blends the band’s trademark dance-punk rhythms with a post-hardcore edge.

The music video for the single has frontman Tim Harrington, guitarists Seth Jabour & Andrew Reuland, bassist Syd Butler and bassist Harrison Haynes holding cue cards with the lyrics on them throughout various locations. There are other folks joining in as well, including stand-up comic, actor, writer and director David Cross.

The guitars have this offhanded virtuoso thing going,” Harrington says about the making of “Legendary Tippers”. “Seth had stacked all of these semi-improvised scratch tracks into a demo. When I got them, I was immediately drawn to the manic pile-up of using them all, all at once, with zero edits. It’s like if the solo from ‘Taxman’ wolfed down a bottle of Adderall.”

In support of the release, Les Savy Fav have a string of shows happening all over Europe. These include a performance at the Simple Things Fest in the British city of Bristol on February 24 and another one at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on May 28. Let’s hope they intertwine these gigs with some dates around the United States over the course of the next few months. Until that happens, check out the music video for “Legendary Tippers” and dive right in.
