While it’s folk contemporary has been building their lineup with a steady flow of announcements, the Newport Jazz Festival has just dropped theirs in full fledged fashion. It’s once again making its claim for being one of the best musical spectacles to check out during the summer and when you take a look at who’s going to be performing at this year’s edition, it’s easy to see why. August 2–4 will be a wild weekend at Fort Adams with a whole lot of fun to be had, but the only way to experience it is by showing up. Fortunately, we have all the details to give you the scoop when it comes to what to get excited about for this particular occasion. It also should be mentioned that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival, which makes the upcoming installment even more special.

Coming off the release of his heralded flute-driven album New Blue Sun, André 3000 from the Atlanta hip hop legends Outkast is going to be one of the headliners. The same can be said for the New York City disco icons Chic, who’ll be led by the one and only Nile Rodgers. Both Kamasi Washington and Robert Glasper, who are two of the premier artists in modern jazz, will be performing each of their respective solo projects along with the collaborative band Dinner Party, which also features Terrace Martin. Washington, D.C. downtempo purveyors Thievery Corporation are also going to be bringing their blend of dub, acid jazz and electronica as well as the likes of Brittany Howard, Cory Wong and PJ Morton. These are only a few of the acts who will be taking part in this year’s Newport Jazz Festival, and the best way to get the complete list is by either logging on to the festival’s website or checking out the flyer below.

To purchase tickets, you can do so right here. I recommend accomplishing the task in quick fashion due to the fact that tickets are going to be unavailable very soon as of press time. If you end up attending the Newport Jazz Festival at the beginning of August, you’re in for a treat. If you’re still undecided, then what the hell are you waiting for?
