When it comes to films, cameos are often the icing on top of the visual cake. A certain celebrity or public figure making an appearance in a scene can often be a highlight of the entire movie. Philadelphia via Northampton indie rock act Speedy Ortiz took this approach and brought it up a notch in their music video for the single “Ghostwriter” which is out today (August 1). There are numerous roles being filled by comedians, activists, authors and even a cartoonist within a live show setting. The new track is off of the band’s upcoming fourth album Rabbit Rabbit, which is due out on September 1 via the Philadelphia based label Wax Nine Records.

Directed by Alex Ross Perry, the video has the likes of comedian Josh Gondleman, punk rock icon Ted Leo, author Amy Rose Spiegel and cartoonist Jason Adam Katzenstein involved in the making of it among others. While having an underlying message concerning climate change, the song also echoes an appreciation for late ’90s and early 2000s nu metal that lead vocalist and guitarist Sadie Dupuis, rhythm guitarist Andy Moholt, bassist and backing vocalist Audrey Zee Whitesides and drummer Joey Doubek each share.

“While ‘Ghostwriter”’ ruminates on the horrible realities that stoke my anger,” Dupuis says about the single via press release…
