Top Tracks: 10 Stellar Songs That Came Out of Providence in 2023
When it comes to the current state of the music scene in Providence, it’s fairly expansive. Numerous artists and bands are putting their own spin on certain styles that set them apart and/or they’re showing a different creative side of themselves that’s refreshing and invigorating. It’s an interesting time to be in this community where the established veterans are continuously growing and evolving while the new breed of up and comers are making their presence felt in a variety of ways. This is obviously best exemplified in the music itself, and there’s been plenty of fantastic recordings that have come out of this city we call home over the past 11 and a 1/2 months. While it was tough to narrow it down to a short list, and my apologies if your favorite musician or your favorite band isn’t included, here are 10 stellar songs that made Providence and the music within it shine in 2023.
Pan Damia — “Read Between The Lines”
Before Amanda Salemi embraced the Pan Damia moniker, a lot of folks around “The Creative Capital” knew her as the emphatic co-lead vocalist of the gypsy blues band Consuelo’s Revenge and one of the hardest working bartenders around. With her debut album Chapter One that came out on February 4, she worked with Erik Leone and Totem Faehy at Blu3Kat Records in Lincoln while exhibiting her stunning vocal approach over electronic elements. This is my favorite track off of the full-length because of the keyboards and the orchestral samples counteracting with her incredible range.
