Update December 2018: this position has been filled!

We are looking for a very experienced candidate who can face complex challenges with minimum guidance. Some technologies we use are C++, PHP, Javascript (React + Redux + Sagas), CSS (LESS), Redis and MySQL. The area we want to reinforce is the back-end, so PHP and MySQL knowledge is a must. DevOps knowledge is also desired and any C++ knowledge is a huge plus.

MarketGoo is a profitable startup that has a different culture. For us the important thing is to build something great, help our customers, take care of the team and grow our business. We do not have VCs (we do not hate them either) but we do things without hurry, without pause and with affection.

Our las team retreat in Portugal

We are a small team, therefore you will not be one more, you will have the opportunity to leave your mark and learn from everyone. We love remote work (although we have an office in Madrid), flexibility and being free. We don’t like to call ourselves a little family, we are not. We are co workers but we care for each other. We are here for the long term and to create a place where we want to come to work.

We build software that simplifies SEO, helping small businesses to be successful online. We have tens of thousands of customers and partners all over the world with English spoken markets as our main target.

About the job

Our mission is to help SMBs with their online business. An overwhelming task for SMB owners, studios or solopreneurs who tend to not be familiar with online marketing and often get lost in complicated tools and strategies.

Working on SEO is key for a website to boost its results yet there is not an easy or convenient way for a business owner to improve its organic traffic. Your main goal is to work with us to keep closing this gap.

SEO works, hiring an agency works and tools for SEO experts work too. We are working hard on building the suite of tools that makes SEO work for a non tech savvy user, an SMB owner that has already plenty of challenges and craves for an actionable product that brings value.

You’ll work directly with the dev and the product teams to understand the goals and problems, plan the best way to accomplish goals and define the scope. You can always count on your team mates, but we also expect you to be as autonomous and responsible of your own tasks as possible.

Some examples of your duties:
- Help us to improve and maintain the current PHP code
- Implement a CI system
- Use Docker to setup different environments
- Keep an eye on the servers and the database and manage them if needed
- Add new features to the C++ code (with help and guidance if needed)

About you

This is not an entry level position. You have provable professional experience in back-end development and have already worked in a SaaS company. This means you are comfortable understanding problems in-depth, not just making it work.

We are looking for Managers of One. We aspire to build a high performing team where we do great work together and our model needs you to be autonomous, executive and get things done without continuous direction. It is combinable to the lean mindset stated previously, we ensure quality work but also try avoid falling in the perfectionism trap.

As a remote company, our work takes place mainly over Slack, Trello, Confluence, e-mail, etc so you need to be a great communicator. Being assertive means efficiency for the rest of the team, expressing your ideas with confidence enriches us with a new point of view and we also value that you can make your point but commit when we disagree.

We believe in remote work but in the beginning we expect you to live in Madrid, in our experience it’s key to spend time face to face in the beginning of the relationship. You do not need to speak Spanish, but at least you need to have the willingness to learn. Already speaking it is a plus!

Pay and benefits

This is where some buzzwords such as competitive salary and interesting perks normally start. We want to be transparent:

  • We are offering for this role a a range of 35k — 50k, depending on your experience. Our aspiration is to grow the business together to reach 20% + market salary for any position.
  • 2k for a computer of your choice, and an ongoing budget for equipment like screens, keyboards, etc…
  • Team Assistant: We have a person taking care of the team. Do you need to setup an appointment, buy your children’s books for school or make a restaurant reservation? Just ask our assistant for it.
  • Also, after two years in the team you get to participate in our profit sharing program included on top of your salary.
  • We believe in wisdom growth. We will also support you with both professional and personal growth and have resources for helping you to keep learning and designing your lifestyle.
  • We expect you to live in Madrid in the beginning with remote flexibility. No timetables.
  • We have a strong relationship, we are here for the long term. Our business is sustainable and independent from funding.
  • We like to promote personal care and wellbeing. We have a monthly stipend for fitness and sport activities.
  • And this is just the beginning. More stuff is on the go and we are also happy to hear your ideas!

How to apply

If you see yourself working with us, please send in your application.

Introduce yourself, we’d like to know more about you, what you like, how you would approach some of the example projects we’ve mentioned and what your experience has been dealing with similar challenges.

We value your communication skills so take your time, there is no rush as we are not considering just a CV on its own. On the other hand, please keep your cover letter easy to digest. Around 800 words is enough.

We are really looking forward to hearing from you!
