CURRENT CULTURE: Trump reaches ‘100 day’ mark, Hasan Minhaj shines at Correspondents Dinner and #WorldsApart
The First 100 Days
President Donald Trump passed his 100th day in office with low approval ratings and nary a legislative accomplishment in hand. Despite having a supporter base that would almost unanimously reelect him in a heartbeat, Trump is losing nearly every other group.
When it comes to concerns regarding a poor grade on this benchmark, Trump complained that the media would judge him unfairly and the 100 days was a “ridiculous” benchmark to begin with. Ironically, Trump created a contract with the American voter in the 2016 election campaign titled the “100 day Action Plan to Make America Great Again.” Very little of his promises were completed.
White House Correspondent’s Dinner
In addition to the ‘100 Days’ milestone, Saturday was also the White House Correspondent’s Dinner where journalists and politicians alike come together. In only the second time in modern history, the Commander-in-Chief chose not to attend the event and he instead spent his Saturday holding a campaign-style rally in Pennsylvania to an appreciative crowd.
“Daily Show” correspondent Hasan Minhaj hosted the show. The event was closely followed on social media, with several memes resulting from it.
#WorldsApart
In their new marketing campaign, titled “Worlds Apart”, Heineken released a video showing people of differing political persuasions coming together and sharing a beer with one another. In a world where politics have become divisive, this ad does a good job in showing how, despite our differences, we can work and have conversations with each other.
After Pepsi’s tone-deaf PR debacle earlier in April, this ad was a nice refreshment — pun intended.
@Reuters Has anyone here watched the new Heineken ad? Need more of that. #heineken
