Twitter announced that it is ending the production of popular social media app Vine and Twitter users showed their respects by re-posting some of Vines best moments this week.

What do social media stars King Bach and Darius Benson have in common? Both rising comedians amassed millions of followers on the social media app. These definitely weren’t the only two however. Millions of people used Vine as a source to showcase their talents to the world, all while doing it in six seconds or less. Well, if you didn’t take the opportunity to use Vine in a way that reached people through laughter, or amazing vocal cords, or just enlightening someone’s day, I’m afraid you missed your chance. We have reached the end of the Vine.

Twitter announced Thursday in a Medium post that it is shutting down the popular short-form video app, hours after announcing a nine percent staff cut to the company. Vine said that as of now its users will still be able to access and download their six-second videos and it promised to keep its website online, however the app will be discontinued “in coming months.”

“Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today,” Twitter wrote. “We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website.”

Vine not only created a platform for creatives to gain a following through expressing their gifts, but it also birthed many memorable social media moments that contributed to the culture. Twitter users used this disappointing news to pay respects and re-post some of their favorite Vines in memory of one of the most influential apps created.

Below are some of my favorite Vines:

RIP Vine. The culture will never forget you.
