Rapper Guru Goldie (@the_guruman) talks about his artistry with IDB host Swisha Pearl (@cuff_yobic)

We are almost out of the first month of the new year, have you been keeping up with your resolutions? We said we’d work out more this year (well, that’s shot already), but we also wanted to bring even more dope artists to the basement— and that’s been going well.

On this week’s session, we invited Guru Goldie of Inkkstarz to the basement with us. Goldie chats with us about what a “guru” truly is, why he loves to create music and what makes a Chicago artist different from anywhere else. We also spent some time discussing his favorite tattoos and thier origin stories.

Goldie laced us with some local freestyle heat before he dipped off as well… #enjoy!

ABOUT IN DA BASEMENT

Each week, the good people at Culture will bring Chicago’s hottest up-and-coming musical prospects to the forefront. In tandem with Clutch Productions and A.W.O.L Films, our aim is to provide a platform for artists to shine.

The show consists of a light, conversational interview in which we delve into the origins of the artist, their views on the city and anything from the latest social media trends to their favorite Bulls player.

The latter half features a freestyle performance where show host Swisha Pearl joins the guest in “blessing the basement.”

Join us as we discover the best of Chicago’s thriving music scene. Get an intimate view of the artists you’ll soon see blow up on social media as well as a rare opportunity to catch a special freestyle.
