It seems like yesterday Chicago was dominated by drill and trap anthems. In many ways, that may yet be the case in 2017. But there’s no denying a hip-hop renaissance currently brewing in the city of wind.

With artists like Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa and Noname excelling on a national level, the musical identity of Chicago is being reinvented before our eyes.

MF’N Melo of Pivot Gang — one of the most prominent local music collectives—is a West Side rapper that may soon join his peers in helping redefine Chi-Town hip-hop nationally. His latest single, “The Giver,” features another local phenom on the rise in the hard-spitting MC femdot. With vocals from Jacob Denzel of ArchDuke, this is a track that’ll be in your rotation for a while.

It’s not everyday you get local artists of this caliber to team up for an all-star track.
