LOCAL PRODUCE: Rapper Cdot Honcho Hands out Harold’s Chicken meal ‘deals’ to Chicagoans on Super Bowl Sunday
The Super Bowl is an event that celebrates the pinnacle of American sports and, in many ways, it’s the penultimate cultural gathering. At most Super Bowl parties, food, liquor (I mean drinks), games and more drinks (err, liquor) are enjoyed in copious amounts.
Unfortunately, not everyone has the means to enjoy themselves during the nation-wide sporting “holiday.” Local rapper Cdot Honcho decided to boost the spirits of those less fortunate by giving away meal “deals” from the famous Chicago food staple, Harold’s Chicken, on Super Bowl Sunday.
Scores of people huddled around the 22-year-old MC and thanked him for the meals, which included a $20 bill attached. The grand gesture blew up on social media, and fans of the young rapper clamored in their support of him as he’s built a reputation of putting on for his city through charity.
You can see the happy faces and their first reactions from this video from his instagram page:
The “Aquafina” rapper first made his wave on Soundcloud, where his music been streamed over 2 million times. The South Side native lost his mother to cancer during the final years of his high school career and his grandmother would pass less than a year after. These tragedies propelled the drive within Honcho to take his music career much more seriously.
Honcho would release his first project, Honcho the EP, in October of 2015.
