That’s right, it’s time to get wild! Or better yet, get some understanding of this word. If you’re learning English, it is already pretty common for you. As a born-and-raised English speaker, one who writes (or attempts to write) in the language every day, I want to share some of the basic meanings, as well as some more figurative meanings, slang, and expressions using “wild.” So, let’s have some fun and dive into English, one word at a time.

*These meanings and uses of “wild” are what I am most familiar with, and I am aware some of the uses are regional. They are by no means the only uses of the word, and possibly have other uses in other regions or countries. If there’s a meaning that I missed, please share it with us all in the comments. Thank you!

The “Real” Wild

This is a word whose meaning seems obvious. In the traditional sense, wild describes something that is from nature, uncivilized, or not domesticated. This is where you might think of wild horses or wildflowers. For animals (and occasionally people) a similar word for this is “feral.”

When talking about a region or landscape, “wild” takes on the meaning of a land that’s not cultivated, inhabited, or not even hospitable…
