Of Team Diversity and Stimulating Experiences

With so much being said about Game of Codes in our previous posts, it is obvious that this was an experience we all cherished. My teammates (Naresh, Afsarunnisa, Srikanth Ladi, and Vivek) and I worked on creating an app called ‘Wavebytes’.

It all began with brainstorming between Naresh and me. We figured we needed an iOS developer and UI developer so we got Afsarunnisa and Srikanth Ladi on board. When Vivek volunteered to take the responsibility for the Backend, it all came full circle. Our team was set and we started discussing various ideas; everyone came up with different ideas. Each idea was considered. Every opinion was valued. On an average, we shortlisted around 5 ideas that included a food delivery app where you can order food right at the restaurant and pay through the app avoiding the hassle of waiting for the waiter, an app for renting costumes, one for booking function halls, a scoring app, and an app that acts as a mediator between parents and teachers in a school.

While trying to understand the scope for every app, we understood that all of them lacked one. That’s when the idea of building Wavebytes stuck our minds. Wavebytes is an app that would include updating weekly timesheet of each associate. Of course, the further versions of the application would be enhanced according to the requirement. Wavebytes has a larger scope. Plus, our organization needed one. So, we finalized it.

Our mentor, Rupesh Nellore guided us in discussing the flow of the app and creating a flowchart as a first step towards building the app. Taking his advice, we drew out the scope for every app which made our work a lot easier. Because if the scope is minimal, the development becomes quite simple. We pushed ourselves out of our comfort zone persistently while working on this application, only to realize there is so much to learn when different people come together.

We found this whole experience interesting and stimulating with different people from different teams coming together to work on one app. We understood the importance of taking ownership and how much teamwork counts. We are glad Rupesh was there all along the journey, identifying the wrong things and assisting us to make them right.
