ArtPrize 10 artist registration, applications for $50,000 in artist seed grants are now open
Anyone over 18, working in any medium, from anywhere in the world is invited to enter artwork in the tenth edition of ArtPrize, and compete for $500,000 in prizes awarded equally by public vote and expert jury.

ArtPrize, the independently organized art competition recognized as one of the world’s largest annual public art events, today opened artist registration for its tenth iteration. Concurrently, the organization announced the availability of $50,000 in Artist Seed Grants presented by the Frey Foundation, to support 25 artists in bringing their work to ArtPrize 10. Anyone over 18, working in any medium, from any place on earth can enter to compete for a combination of public vote and juried awards totaling $500,000. Artist registration for ArtPrize 10 will run through June 7, 2018 at 5 p.m. ET.
“Over the last nine years, more than 13,000 artists from around the world have filled every corner of downtown Grand Rapids with their work, for more than 3.5 million visitors to experience,” noted Kevin Buist, ArtPrize Exhibitions Director. “We cannot wait to watch the tenth event take shape over the coming weeks, as artists submit their work and collaborate with the 180 registered venues to organize their shows.”
In addition to artist registration, applications for 2018 Artist Seed Grants, presented by the Frey Foundation, also opened today. For a fifth consecutive year, ArtPrize will offer 25 artists $2,000 grants each to realize their ambitious art projects at the event this fall. Interested artists must demonstrate both financial need and artistic merit, and submit their applications by the close of Artist Registration on June 7 at 5 p.m. ET. Applications will be reviewed — and the grantees selected — by the ArtPrize Arts Advisory Council, a panel of art critics and experts.
Venue registration for ArtPrize 10, which ran through April 5, underscored the continued desire for citywide collaboration to showcase Grand Rapids to the entire world. 180 venues — from museums and public parks to restaurants and coffee shops, and including 31 new spaces — seek to participate in the tenth annual event.
Registered artists and venues will find each other and connect online at artprize.org during the Connections period, held from April 25-June 28 — agreeing to present the artwork for public display during the 19-day event this fall.
