MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ was the host of Super Bowl XLVIII.

Now that we’ve all had a couple days to recover from our Super Bowl hangover we can sit back and ask, what the hell happened? In what was supposed to be a promising game of Elite Defense vs. Elite Offense, the offense was left behind at the Denver airport.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

Shut out.

Going in to the day I don’t think anyone outside of Seattle would have expected the record setting Denver offense and the MVP Peyton Manning to be shut out in the first half, and almost the whole game if not for Demaryius Thomas play to catch the lone Manning TD pass. Thomas also set a Super Bowl record with 13 receptions so at least they had that going for them right?

I had predicted that Seattle’s D would come out strong and that it would really be a team effort. But I for sure thought that John Fox and Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase would have come up with some kind of master strategy to counteract the tight coverage that Seattle was playing. Whatever they did come up with was no match for the brilliant team effort of Seattle’s D led by Cliff Avril, Bobby Wagner, Kam Chancellor, and MVP Malcolm Smith.

A young team.

But while the Seattle Defense and the lack of a Bronco’s offense has gotten most of the attention in these last few days, not enough could be said for the excellent offense run by Russell Wilson. As someone who would have loved to see the Seahawks crushed, the performance by Wilson has made me think otherwise about my irrational hatred. Wilson played a solid game with precision passing and excellent footwork. He managed the clock well when they needed to in the early stages, and was a master General marching his troops down the field. With nine different receivers thrown to, he spread the wealth in the biggest game of his career.

Congrats from Chicago.

So hats off to you Seattle Seahawks on your first Super Bowl victory. I hope that you enjoy your 2ndplace NFC finish to the Chicago Bears next year. Not that it matters, but I don’t hate you anymore. Your trashing of Denver endeared you to this Chicago football simpleton. All of you but Pete Carroll of course, I still don’t like you.
