Kobe Bryant is a national treasure

The NBA is slightly worse off without Kobe Bryant on an active roster. His 1990s-style ball hog mentality, legendary intensity, and spartan workout regiment made him a man apart from typical NBA stars, especially as the league transitioned into the current era of social media and analytics. He was a hero, mostly to L.A. Lakers fans, and relished the role of heel for everyone else.

Fortunately, Kobe is now channeling that eccentric energy into short segments of basketball analysis. His insight is no surprise — he did after all win five championships — but his skills as a narrator are a delight, and elevate his segments to a sublime level.
