A fun thing to do every time I’m in Japan is go to anime and game-themed cafés. These themed cafés are usually temporary pop-ups promoting an upcoming release or anniversary. When I was researching for this trip, I saw that the Kirby Café that was originally supposed to be temporary had expanded into permanent spots in Tokyo and Hakata, including newly opened takeaway spots branded as Kirby Café Petit in Tokyo and Osaka.

The Kirby Cafés are reservation only, and getting one requires some planning. They release spots on the 10th of every month at 6pm Tokyo local time (5am EST) for the following month. They also announce it day of on their twitter so you can subscribe to notifications as well.

PRO TIPS:

  • If using a US or similar mobile number in the reservation form, entering 1 and then my mobile number was the format that was accepted. For example, formatting my number like 12125557777 let me continue but both +12125557777 and 2125557777 did not.
  • If you miss out, you can keep checking the reservation page for last minute cancellations that open up or visit the Kirby Café Petit.
