Many years ago, I used to live in Gzira and work in Sliema. It’s just a quick walk from one to the other, and Gzira rental prices at the time were far more reasonable than in Sliema. I had a tiny, two-bedroom house of character with the bittiest little garden you could imagine. The rent was at most half of what it would have been a few streets away.
It was on the walk from the office to home that I developed a genuine love for anchovies on pizza, as there was a hole-in-the-wall pizzeria on the way that made a pizza napolitana to die for.
Gzira is a different place now. The little eateries still exist, but prices reflect the steady process of gentrification as Sliema businesses expand and their staff spread out. We have a few lovely places in Gzira, but this very recent listing is outstanding.
