Confession time: I recently found myself in that dreaded literary wasteland — a reading slump.
The pages blurred, the stories felt distant, and my usual bookish enthusiasm had packed its bags for a vacation I wasn’t invited to.
My Reading Olympics plan was a book from South Korea. But as fate, or perhaps a particularly well-placed display at my local library, would have it, my literary compass suddenly swung in a different direction.
Amidst the familiar spines, a book with an intriguing cover practically jumped off the shelf — Nadia Wassef’s Chronicles of a Cairo Bookseller. Intrigued by this unexpected encounter, and perhaps a little rebellious against my initial plan, I decided to take a detour.
So, while my ambitious quest to read a book from every country continues, my immediate focus can shift. Forget Seoul for now; today, our literary journey begins in the captivating hidden gems…
