Professional Girl Braving the Wilderness of the Tech World
The journey of finding belonging in your career.
Building a tech career is very challenging. Besides being a life-long learner of tech skills, I constantly invest in my knowledge and mindset through books and audiobooks about business and personal development. I firmly believe that the investment you do in yourself is the one that is going to pay off the most in the long run.
During this week, I listened to Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by Brené Brown, my favorite author of our times.
In this book, Brené proposes the acronym BRAVING (B- Boundaries, R- Reliability, A- Accountability, V- Vault, I- Integrity, N- Non-Judgement, G- Generosity) as the tool to help us manage the wilderness of life. I found it very fascinating and so applicable to the wilderness world of tech.
The book starts with analyzing a famous quote of Maya Angelou:
“You are only free when you realize you belong no place — you belong every place — no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great.”
