Did you know that Mercury has the most elliptical orbit around the Sun? What this means is that Mercury’s distance from the Sun varies the most out of all the planets in our Solar system. Usually, Mercury is about 36 million miles from the Sun. But when it moves to its closest point from the Sun, the distance shrinks to 28 million miles. At its farthest, the distance of the planet is 43 million miles from the Sun. This difference in the distance has quite an impact on the amount of sunlight Mercury receives. When the planet is furthest out from the Sun, it receives twice less the amount as at its nearest.
