3 Wake-Up Calls We All Need To Hear
The Day I Woke Up From My Blindness
When I turned 18, my grandfather gave me three lightly-used flannel shirts. “Think they’ll look great on you sweetheart,” he said. I looked at him tentatively and gave him a crooked half-smile, then moved on to the other gifts in front of me.
Two days later, he passed away — suddenly and unexpectedly. These shirts he gave me were the last gifts he ever gave me, and I regret the things I didn’t say when I had the chance like: “Thank you, Grandpa, I truly appreciate you”.
As the years passed and I grew up, those three shirts became like old friends that I never left behind. They were always there when I needed them most; when it was cold outside or just before my first date. They became a source of warmth, comfort, and safety for me.
Looking back, I wish I had thanked him enough because, now that I’m older, I realize how important those shirts were — and are — to me. They aren’t just symbols of things he loved; they’re part of his legacy.
I was shaken to my soul the day I received the tragic news — a wake-up call that I embraced and which has served me well over the years since then. Overall, I’ve learned a lot of hard lessons in the past few years and I hope these three reminders help you, too.
