Clubhouse is quickly becoming a major new social network. However, etiquette is still forming on the platform and hosting a good room can be tricky. I’ve spent a couple of weeks speaking in and hosting a number of Clubhouse events and gathered the tips below to help you get started.

  1. The Elephant in the Room

Clubhouse is audio only, and the elephant in the room is that anyone could be naked at any time. It’s best to address this early and often by clarifying that you are, in fact, wearing clothes. Nudge guests to do the same if they forget, e.g ‘Sorry to interrupt Robert, but can you just confirm you’re fully clothed?’ If they refuse to answer or answer in the negative, immediately eject them and allow space for anyone listening to come and share how they’re feeling about what just happened.

It’s normal on the platform to sign off with your name when you’ve finished speaking, as many people listen while doing other things. This is another opportunity to clarify that you’re clothed and provide more detail to allay any lingering suspicions. ‘This is Alexander, and I am wearing a pair of Superdry jeans and a black T shirt, along with socks, underwear and shoes.’
