Everything Is Possible
Just Do It. It is Your Decision.
Do you sometimes dream of lying in a hammock under palm trees instead of doing your unloved job? Why don’t you do it? Is it the circumstances, your family, the economy, your financial possibilities that keep you away?
It isn’t. It is only you because it is your decision.
A few years ago, when I was an employee, the following situation arose: I was sitting in my office in front of my laptop, looking out the window to the central train station. The project was dragging, I didn’t see any sense in my job anymore, and I just wanted to be elsewhere. The following thought came into my mind: “What if I get up, leave the laptop and the company cell phone on the desk, and leave. Take the next train to the airport, go to a travel agency there and book a last-minute deal to somewhere far away.” It could have done it — I had my credit cards with me, I could have bought clothes and other stuff for the trip on the way. I didn’t do it, because every decision has a price. The trip’s price would have been losing my job and disappointing the people I was working with. But not doing it also had a price: I continued to drag myself to work tired and listless. But the price for the decision not to change anything seemed less to me (it probably wasn’t).
