With the recent release of version 10 of Evernote, users swiftly fell into three camps:

  • Those that think it is a complete disaster and want to move to another app.
  • Those that think it is just fine and don’t see what all the fuss is about.
  • Those that are sticking with the legacy app, 6.25

But, the reality is, these three options are not mutually exclusive. In fact, there is a lot to be said to follow all three paths simultaneously. Once you ‘upgrade’ to the new version, you can reinstall the legacy app. You can watch a video here for instructions, or if you still have version 6x in your download folder, simply reinstall it.

The two apps will operate just fine side-by-side. In this way, you can grab updates of v10 as they become available and see if it will suit your needs while maintaining the safety net of v6 for your day to day use.

Meanwhile, it will cost little to no money and not a great deal of time to try out a new solution. In this way, if you do decide to jump ship, you already have a new app wholly or partially ready to go. If you choose to stick with Evernote, you have a full or partial backup of your notes, as well as a plan B you can execute at any time.
