HOW CHANGES CAN FUEL A FULFILLING LIFE
The Art of Quitting
And why you should do it more often
We’ve all heard phrases like “never give in” or “success is measured by the number of times you are knocked down and get up again.”
In sports, in relationships, and business endeavors — especially in entrepreneurship and innovation — these are common. They glorify the fighter and equate work-ethic and success with sticking to plan no matter what.
And these may be perfectly valid in some situations. When starting a new project, we often discover a lot of bumps on the road we hadn’t thought of before getting started. Giving up every time an obstacle occur means we won’t get much done.
But in other situations, the above phrases are not valid!
Sometimes the best option is simply to quit
Occasionally, never “giving in” is detrimental to our well-being or ability to reach professional goals.
Knowing when to quit, and doing it more often, is guaranteed to improve our personal lives, our careers and companies, and our relationships with other people. Quitting is often frowned upon as if it equals failure and expresses a lack of effort, skills, or commitment.
