The First 14 Days
Tips on how to survive a 14-day hotel quarantine
I am just about to complete a 14-day hotel quarantine in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia. Here are my thoughts on my arrival and on my temporary home - 19sqm of The TUNE Airport hotel - as we creep towards freedom.
My overwhelming feeling upon landing in KL last Saturday was one of relief. The summer has been a long, drawn-out affair with so much uncertainty.
On arrival at KL International Airport (KLIA), we began our trek through the efficient, but endless maze of stations requesting temperature checks, health declarations and immigration documentation. After a rather uncomfortable COVID19 swab test, we were asked to wait whilst our bags were organised. A brief but worrying period of lining up in gender split my wife and I but. quickly reunited, we continued to more paperwork and checks ensued.
As we waited to board the bus in control of our 14 days destiny, a member of airport staff thoroughly soaked our bags with disinfectant. As we watched we, rather excitedly, started to wonder where we might be placed in the lottery of government-managed hotel assignment for arrivals in Malaysia. We were ready for our magical mystery tour of KL; who would be the first to spot the Petronas Towers? Would we pass my new workplace? Will we be staying in KL city centre with a cool view over the city?
