The Key To a Successful Relationship is To Treat it Like a Business Partnership

70% of couples break up in the first year of their relationship. That’s according to one scathing account, which found that the biggest reason was due to communication issues.

And while that figure may be high, the conclusion is not wrong. Communication issues do cause breakdowns in relationships.

Think of it this way, if you were working in a job and didn’t tell your manager that you would be coming in late, that you struggled to work past 3 pm, or that you didn’t understand a particular task, wouldn’t there view of you be different than if you had told them all of those things?

So why should it be any different in a relationship? Unless that person knows you exceptionally well, they wouldn’t be able to read your facial expressions, recognise your subtle body cues or hear your voice fading when you talk about a difficult subject.

And yet, so many of us assume that the other person will. We can’t change ourselves, but we can make it easier for the other person to understand us.
