You’ve probably heard many people say, “It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.” And when it comes to writing, they’re totally correct.

If you want to become an incredibly successful writer, you need to have the right incentives that will inspire you to keep going — even when things get tough.

So naturally, writing solely to improve your bank account will only get you so far, as you’ll quickly lose motivation whenever your earnings drop. Instead, a much better strategy for becoming a successful writer is to improve people’s lives with each article you publish.

Let me explain.

Your Past Can Improve Other People’s Future.

If you’ve faced a problem and come out stronger on the other side, writing about your experience can give other people a roadmap to do the same. Like Neil Gaiman once said:

“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
