2020 challenged — and changed — the way I think about beauty. Out with the days of glamazon eyeshadow, in with the era of no makeup makeup (or, realistically, just no makeup). All this time in isolation has given me a lot of time to think about my relationship with my body, skin included.

It turns out that it’s a lot easier to find your own natural beauty if you know how to look for it. Enter acne positivity: the body positive movement that’s inspiring people like me to love their skin, no edit and unfiltered. In no particular order, here are 8 skin positive accounts to fill your IG feed with good vibes this year.

1. @barefacedfemme

Your soul is what makes you attractive. Not the size of your jeans, not your weight, & definitely not the clarity of your skin.

2. @skinnoshame

It’s ok to look normal. Don’t aspire to be anything else just because someone isn’t comfortable seeing YOUR body.

3. @donthateyourskinn

To me, stretch marks, scars and freckles all go in the same box of cute things that make me more me.

4. @tomatofacebeauty

Since my skin is constantly changing, I also learned how to embrace my skin in 2020, whether it’s clear or breaking out. My self worth isn’t determined by how little or how much acne is on my face.

5. @moniqueschreiber

Just here to remind you that you are more than the scars, dents, pimples and blemishes on your skin. You are loved and so worthy!

6. @izzierodgers

Getting acne has taught me so much, one being life is about making choices that make YOU happy, not anyone else … and my choice is to love my skin and be happy regardless of what it looks like.

7. @lounorthcote

#freethepimple is more than just showing your acne and that being it; it’s about being able to accept that that is you and to not let it control you, control your life, control your emotions in whatever part of your acne journey you are one.

8. @isofiagrahn

Why the hell would I want to be ‘flawless?’ I’d much rather be myself.

Whatever your intentions are for 2021, remember to be kind to yourself! Self-love and acceptance is hard work, but it’s well worth it.
