The trendy thing in our neck of the proverbial woods is to offer custom beauty products using an algorithm. That’s all well and good for some things, but we believe your skin deserves a more personal touch. That’s why when you join Curology, you get matched with a real, live, licensed medical provider to address your (sk)individual needs, from acne to hyperpigmentation to fine lines and wrinkles.
AI is cool, but sometimes a real person is just…better
Humans can assess your skin’s needs like no AI or algorithm can by looking at your pictures and the answers you give during your skin quiz — just like seeing a dermatologist in person. We’re a pretty long way off from AI or algorithms being able to replace real medical providers; for example, if you have beard stubble, AI can mistake it for acne! (True story.) We believe that a human touch is crucial in making the right treatment for each and every Curology member. We wouldn’t do it any other way!
We’re not snubbing tech or anything, but isn’t it always nicer to deal with a real person rather than a bot? Especially because our providers love what they do.
“When I left my in-person practice in North County San Diego to come to Curology full-time, I kept hearing, ‘Aren’t you going to miss seeing patients?’” Curology co-founder and board-certified dermatologist Nancy Satur says. “Even though the patient isn’t sitting in front of me, I still care for my patients and have a relationship with them. I actually think in many ways I have a better handle on how my patients are doing here in a telemedicine practice than I did in my brick-and-mortar traditional dermatology practice, because the photos that our patients upload allow us to follow their treatment progress closely.”
