Welcome back! There are lots of major releases still ahead this month — the first release of the Current App on Android…the release of V1 of the protocol (the ability to “get paid to play” while streaming in the app)…and what we’ve all been waiting for, token distribution. With everything that’s coming up, we’re going to switch to a bi-weekly schedule for our weekly updates with announcements in between.

Below, we’ve included the updates over the last couple of weeks and a few new details around token distribution.

Marketing & Growth 🗞😃📈

User Acquisition: Recap & Ongoing Update 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

To date, since we’ve began our user acquisition campaigns in late May, we’ve added ~400,000 new users to the Current App on iOS. All from non-incentive based traffic. From all of our tests we’ve learned a tremendous amount of what content works best for acquiring new users. We’ll be using this data in every campaign ahead and continue running with things that work best and begin testing test new channels both domestically and internationally.

Once Current App for Android is live at the end of the month, we’ll start running similar strategies for that segment. We’re very excited to expand our offering to an even larger segment and serve more users around the globe.

Soon, everyone will be able to ‘Get Paid To Play.’

Sticker & Token Logo Contest: Update!🎯💰

Our Sticker and Token Logo contest have been running for a little over a week now. Another week to go! Remember, the entries that are obvious combinations of clip art or using copyrighted material will not be considered. Instead, get creative! With a week left in the contest, lets see your best stickers and GIFs! We’ll be creating a Current specific sticker pack at the end of the contest to showcase the best work!

Last Friday, our Head of Curation, and resident DJ (aka Zooey Glass) performed in front hundreds of people at Spring Awakening; Chicago’s largest EDM festival. If you missed out, check out some of his tunes in the link above.

He had this to say about the whole experience:

“My first festival experience was sheer bliss. To hear my tracks that loud and be accompanied by that level of production was a dream come true. It was really gratifying to provide a more underground perspective at a festival so geared towards a more mainstream sound and see that my music was resonating with people”

Current Video Pick of the Week: Hunnybee by Unknown Mortal Orchestra

This week’s video comes to you from Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a band who has been dipping in and out of the spotlight for some time now. Hunnybee is a funky, smooth, and heartwarming single from UMO’s newest album “Food & Sex”. The band pairs this track with a simple, yet impactful animation that evokes nostalgia and summer lovin’. Check out the video for the track… but be prepared for dancing with some soft tears running down your cheeks and a smile on your face.

Current Song Pick of the Week: Heart by Omar Apollo

This week’s track comes to you from Omar Apollo, a young Chicano singer who has taken the internet by storm. While Apollo has not received the same viral recognition as artist like Cuco or Clairo, he shows immense talent and vision. Apollo effortlessly drops silky vocals on his track “Heart” a track that sounds like the old Drake jammed with Rhye. Apollo just released his ep “Stereo”, on which he serenades us with more acoustic riffs and angelic vocals.

Current Artist Spotlight: Boy Pablo

Boy Pablo is a teenage band from Norway that has been making a name for themselves over the internet this past year.
