Current Food Industry Regulations

The food industry has unfortunately become somewhat flawed over the years as new chemicals and ways to longer preserve food are made almost everyday. Although there is a government organization that oversees food safety, in some cases, it is still not enough. The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) states on their website, “Several offices make up the Food Safety and Inspection Service. Each plays a key role in protecting America’s food supply.”

As of now, food is regulated at the local, state, and national levels to ensure the people of The United States are receiving the proper food safety and nutrition. As explained in Lucero’s article on The Role of the Government in Regulating Food, “It is under the control of public authority, and public administration; and life and health may be saved or lost, and they are saved or lost, as this authority is wisely or unwisely exercised.” This is a perfect explanation of how the government manages food regulation and how it ultimately controls the health of its citizens. Dr. Mercola who has an artical on foods banned in the U.S; alleged “Americans are slowly waking up to the sad fact that much of the food sold in the US is far inferior to the same foods sold in other nations.” Examples of this statement would include many of the preservatives that are still aloud in the foods produced for the united states today unfortunately.
