October 2018’s updates to Curriculum, an app for creating a study plan & tracking your progress.

Dashboard Mobile UX Improvements

Last month, the Dashboard and Study Plan were released and they looked like this:

Early release version of the Dashboard and Study Plan on https://curriculum-app.io

But the library used for drag-&-drop functionality was so old it didn’t handle modern mobile device touch events correctly.

After switching to the pretty excellent draggable library, created by developers at Shopify, we’ve now got a mobile-friendly Study Plan:

Much better.

Up Next: First Social Features

You can already view another user’s profile on Curriculum, to see the topics and learning resources they’ve added to their ‘track’.

But I’ve been musing on a better goal: To enable a sense of being among other, like-minded humans when you visit Curriculum.

I don’t think anyone who’s trying to focus on study wants to be inundated with alerts or notifications about other peoples’ activity.

But I do think it can be helpful to know others around you are also focusing. Like that feeling when you walk into a full but quiet library.

So I’m going to experiment with a ‘full but quiet’ activity feed. Nothing distracting or in-your-face. No push notifications while you’re trying to read! Just a simple feed that you can glance at to see what others are up to, if you like.

That’s it for this month. 🌟 If you’re looking for a way to create a study plan and track your progress, check out Curriculum. If you’ve got thoughts or feedback to share, send ’em my way.
