The most anticipated event of the College of Engineering (Eng’g) has recently concluded, leaving behind a trail of unforgettable memories and newly forged bonds. With the theme centered around the race against time for Kronos, Engineering Week 2024: Chronoblitz challenged the might of 18 participating organizations in Eng’g — including our very own Sexies!

Each year, even before the second semester begins, UP CURSOR gears up for the event by setting up our Engineering Week Affairs Team (EAT). The team is made up of the following divisions: Communications, Finance & Externals, Internals, Publicity, Records, Technicals, and Productions. At the helm, the Activities Committee Co-heads Kier Patawaran and Ishben Santos served as the Officers-In-Charge. Zee Jimenez reprised their position as the EAT Head while the EAT Junior Head role was given to the Activities Committee Junior Head, Renzo Pangan.

The weeklong juncture kickstarted with the Opening Ceremony held on the 15th of March at the Engineering Steps of Melchor Hall. Before any of the events could commence, representatives of the organization were asked to take the Engineering Week Oath which can be found in the Official Handbook. Our Smoker Night Head, Stephen Encarnacion, took up the mantle to represent UP CURSOR in the ceremony. This was followed by the presentation of the Org Posters that were hung along the balcony of the building. UP CURSOR’s Poster was made by our EAT Publicity Co-head, Brill Riña.

There were a total of 34 day events that pushed through in the span of the 10-day Eng’g Week period, starting from the 15th of March until the 24th of March. These events ranged from the following categories: Arts and Talents, Quiz Show, Engineering Discipline, Strategy, Parlor/Relay/Chance (PRC), Physical Sports and E-Sports. UP CURSOR did not shy away from the day events, bagging podium finishes across different categories.

In the PRC category, our team’s quick thinking and agile movements placed them 2nd in UP GP’s Basaeng’g.

Over at the Physical Sports category, our teams showed their bowling prowess in UP EMC2’s Kanalan 2024. Not only did both our teams make it to the semi-finals, but one also made it to the finals and won 2nd place.

For the Strategy category, our team made noise in UP IE Club’s Jack Eng’g Poy with their peculiar tactics. Leaving it to both luck and chance, our team made it to 2nd place. The Jack Eng’g Poy Team (from the left: Vic, Nix, Kier, Ellie, Annika). Photo by Tonton Bonuan

Last but certainly not least, we also showed our creativity in the Arts and Talents category. With the award-winning comedy short film “OTW,” our team placed 3rd in UP Aggre’s Eng’gterpretations Film Festival. By showing how a world without jeepneys would look like, the team clamors against Jeepney Modernization and calls for #NoToJeepneyPhaseout.

This just goes to show how competent and talented our sexies truly are! But our skills are not limited to event participation, we also sponsored fun and engaging events for the other organizations to enjoy. The EAT Internals Division, spearheaded by Pamjei Dela Rosa and their junior heads, successfully oversaw three day events. Both the Finger Olympics (Finger-O) and Costume Play (Cosplayeng’g) made a return for this year’s iteration. The Internals Division also tested the waters for the quiz show category with the first ever Whatcha Playeng’g? event. Overall, the spirit of camaraderie and teamwork was felt by both participants and organizers alike.

As we shined through the day events, we also continued to glow and showcase our artistry in the night events. In the spirit of Eng’g Week tradition, the very first night was reserved for ESC’s Banyuhay: Smoker Night 2024 where our new members and first timers (aka Eng’g Week virgins) presented a comedic skit about pressing social issues. Next in the line of night events, our members competed in UP KEM’s Indakan 2024 and showed their moves in the coveted group dance contest. We didn’t hold back in the events as we also joined the newest night event, Ep Chi’s Eng’g Funny, with Kier Patawaran as our comedian representative.

UP CURSOR members had fun vibing to the musical performance of our band, the Ca-Bytes, as they rocked UP ACES’ Jameng’g. The charisma of Ca-Bytes’ Nina Sapitula captured the hearts of both the audience and the judges as she was awarded the Best Vocalist Award.

At the very last night of Eng’g Week, ESC’s Eng’gstravaganza: Drag Race served as the closing event of the whole juncture. Our representative, Kylian Buton, graced the main stage as the drag queen, Magdalena Disgrasya. Her glitz and glamor matched with her quick wits were the key in securing her spot at the top 4. Magdalena Disgrasya proved to be a personable queen by winning not just the hearts of her drag sisters but also the Miss Congeniality Award. (You can read more about Kylian’s journey in this article: CURSOR Connects: Magdalena Disgrasya, Ipanalangin Mo Kami!)

That same night, the ESC finalized the tally for the Eng’g Week Overall Champion (EWOC). With a total of 2479.34 points, UP CURSOR placed 7th in the EWOC. (You can view the official scoreboard for the breakdown of scores in this link: bit.ly/EW2024Scoreboard). As a culmination to Eng’g Week 2024, UP CURSOR huddled together for words of gratitude from the EAT Heads followed by echoing chants of all the participating organizations. The night ended with a loud and proud cheer — CURSOR, Sexy!

UP CURSOR and the Engineering Week Affairs Team would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support and donations the alumni have given us this Engineering Week 2024. Once a Sexy, always a Sexy!
