People Newspapers Website Redesign

When I first started working for People Newspapers, they didn’t have a web developer on staff. The site they currently used was outsourced, unmaintained, and outdated. I decided to take it upon myself to update the website to appeal to a broader audience and attract more advertisers with a website that was up to date and easier to read on mobile devices. This endeavor led me to be the current front-end web developer for the newspaper through my extensive study and application of Wordpress PHP, WP Admin, and WP Plugins.

From the moment the site was redesigned, I also implemented and maintained several plugins to create an Events Calendar, Online Classifieds, Directory, Weddings, Announcements, Society Galleries, Wufoo Forms, Staff Pages, and Issuu embeds.

The Society Galleries were fully updated to include auto-publishing, and featured a photo slider that worked on both desktop and mobile.

The websites utilized The Events Calendar plugin with a PRO add-on for community-submitted events.

A directory and classified system was maintained with one extensive plugin that I would regularly update to reflect all the current ads in our newspapers.

With the flexibility of the Hueman theme, I was able to customize and implement many different web elements to help reflect the creativity of the newspaper. These elements included drop caps, pull quotes, data boxes, share buttons, and columns. All of these elements were wild carded into the CSS to reflect the category color wherever they were dropped.
