Jake, Recent Grad and Entrepreneur

Meet Jake Thornton. A Line2 early adopter, he experimented with Line2’s free version when it first launched on the iTunes webstore. Since then, he’s ditched cellular completely and uses Line2 for both his primary phone number and for his business.

Jake’s story with Line2 all started when he graduated college and was dropped from his parent’s family plan. At the time, he knew he didn’t want to spend $1K per year for cellular. He didn’t actually need that many voice minutes, just plenty of data.

Since most everywhere he went had free Wi-Fi, it occurred to Jake that he could use Line2 on his iPhone, iPod Touch, and other devices that weren’t linked to a mobile plan. It seemed the ideal solution — and it worked great.

Fast forward another year and Jake was starting a fitness company. After launching the website, he upgraded to a Line2 business account. He loved that he could choose his own phone number and that when he gave it out, he could set different screening options for different callers. This was especially useful when giving his number out to complete strangers.

With Line2, Jake knows immediately whether his calls are VIP contacts to answer right away, or unknown contacts, which automatically forward to voicemail. And since he can read his voicemails as emails, it’s easy to save them or forward them to colleagues. For a small company, those are powerful tools.

Jake not only believes Line2 is riding the wave of the future, but he also believes it helps him stay connected without being all-consumed by connectivity. To him, it’s calming to come home and check messages in the Line2 app and not be at everyone’s beck and call. With Line2, Jake can spend more time focused on the people he’s with. We think that’s pretty refreshing to hear.
