I have been born and brought up in India. Indian cultures have become a part of my system. Several cultural traditions are observed in India that are not a part of other cultures. These include treating the husband as God, fasting for the husband’s long life, fasting by the bride on the day of her wedding, amongst others.

But today I want to talk about one specific tradition that has been a part of Indian society since ancient times. Ancient history says that —

The practice of touching the feet of elders was adopted in India during the Vedic period and is called Charan Sparsh (charan means ‘feet’ and Sparsh means ‘touch’). According to the Hindu tradition, when you touch the feet of an elder person, you are in turn blessed with knowledge, intellect, strength, and fame.

Touching the elder’s feet has a great significance as per Hindu traditions.
