This edition of pic with a story comes to you from the extremely dried up Lake Powell, Utah. Trust me when I say, this visit was astonishing and despairing in equal measure. I first visited this area of Lake Powell 4 years ago and the rock in the area is known as Lone Rock.

On that occasion, when I first saw the amazing scenery in the area, Lone Rock was surrounded by water, furthermore, the water level was at least as high as halfway up the rock!

Paddleboarding was on the menu that fabulous day, 4 years ago — it was my first experience with paddleboarding, and Lake Powell was a great place to get my feet wet while getting to grips with the paddleboard.

Crazy to think that this area of Lake Powell would be gone in less than 4 years and when we pulled up in the car, it was hard to process what we were seeing. I said to my wife let’s walk out to Lone Rock, which is a total flip of that forementioned time we paddleboarded over to the famous rock!

We carefully navigated our journey across the dried up lake bed, another surreal moment was watching vast numbers of tumbleweeds dancing erratically around the devastated lake. Reason they were rumbling crazily? The wind was blowing so hard, it felt like a mini tornado!
