Crypto Valley Goes Uphill: «Alpchain» in Gstaad

The Crypto Valley has long been more than its birthplace, Zug, where most of the Blockchain companies are located. It encompasses the whole of Switzerland and Liechtenstein and has become a movement that is expanding into new regions, not only including neighbouring cities, but also the Bernese Oberland, where we were hosting the very first «Alpchain» in Gstaad.

The host and co-initiator of the conference, Nachson Mimran, investor, entrepreneur and visionary Chairman of the Alpina Hotel in Gstaad, is primarily concerned with progress on environmental and important social issues. He is also impressively demonstrating this with his sustainability and development platform to.org. This platform promotes projects worldwide that are committed to making a difference and being part of the solution. Nachson firmly believes in the potential of technology and that Blockchain and the power of decentralization can make the world a better place.

Alongside CV VC, the Alpina and the Swiss Blockchain Federation, the conference was presented by Credit Suisse and included an introduction to the topic of blockchain, the history of the Crypto Valley as well as the presentation of three startups by their founders.

Ambassador Helene Budliger, who was hosting us earlier this year in Johannesburg and Cape Town, sees a great opportunity for the developing countries of the southern hemisphere. She has represented Switzerland in South Africa and will continue to do so in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos in the future. Convinced that disruptive technologies such as blockchain can impact a nation, its economy and society, the ambassador gave an insight into her work on the African continent and also highlighted the challenges that many countries are facing.

The fact that the Crypto Valley shines all over the world is also thanks to the former Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann, who coined the term «Crypto Nation Switzerland» almost two years ago. In his closing remarks, he confirmed this statement and welcomed the bridge to the Bernese Alps.

The Gstaad region now has the opportunity to become an important stage in the Crypto Valley and the Blockchain Nation. The first step was made with the Alpchain and I am looking forward to the next chapter in this story.
