When you plan to install the solar power system in your home or commercial space, some common questions arise in your mind: what size solar inverter do I need? and how many solar panels do I need for this 5kwh / 6.6kwh solar inverter system?

In today’s blog, I am going to explore how many solar panels are needed for a 5kw inverter system.

To know how many solar panels are needed for a 5kw Solar inverter system, We need to know what solar panel size we have? Suppose, we have 300 watts size 60 cells residential solar panels.

Now, figure out how many solar panels we need by a certain watt-hour charge load calculation so that we can easily find out how many solar panels we need to install, to maintain our electricity consumption.

At 1st:

Calculate the power will get from a single solar panel

In Victoria or New South Wales, Australia, we will easily get 12–14 hours of sunlight. Let’s consider, we will get an average of 12 hours of sunlight to power up our solar panels.

If we get 12 hours of SunPower, the total Watts from a single panel will be:

1 solar panel = 300 x 12

= 3600 Watts Daily.

But, remember one thing that the solar panels are a maximum of 15–20% efficient. That means that if we have a 100 watts solar panel on an average sunny day, it will provide 20 watts of energy per hour maximum.

Now calculate the solar panel total watts considering efficiency:

20% of 3000 Watts = 3600 x 20%

= 720 Watts Daily

How many solar panels for a 5kw inverter?

A 5kw inverter can produce a maximum of 20kwh per day. So we need to fill just 20kwh per day by the solar panels, not more than this for the optimal output.

We need to fill 20kwh = 20000 watts

We will get from a

Solar panel = 720 Watts

Total Solar Panel We Need = 20000 / 720

= 27.77

= 27 or 28

Finally:

We will know based on our above calculator that we need about 27–28 (300watts) solar panels for a 5kw inverter.
